Impact on Egypt

Queen Hatshepsut's impact on Egypt was very big. She started many building projects that were alot bigger than other Pharaohs before her. She was also able to expand Egypt's territories and made trade for Egypt bigger. She is also known for being able to hold stable order in Egypt.

Queen Arisinoe II's impact on Egypt was important because she was very influential in Egypt's foreign policy. She had towns dedicated to her.

Queen Nefertari was Ramesses II's wife. She took part in civil and religious ceremonies and traveled the pharaoh on important journeys.

Queen Nefertiti's is believed to have started the worship of the sun god Ra. Lots of artwork shows her worshipping Ra. She was very religious and influenced the pharaoh and the people of Egypt to worship Ra too. She had so much influence that the people believed that the pharaoh and Nefertiti were living gods.

Queen Cleopatra is remembered as the last queen pharaoh of Egypt. She was a very strong leader in Egypt and worked with Ceasar and Mark Antony, who were kings of Rome. When she was queen, her country was in many wars that she was a part of.

The Burial

You know, there was a Valley of Kings? Ya! It was a secret place where Kings of Egypt were buried so people wouldn't rob their tombs. It was a smart idea! But wait, where were the Queens buried? Did they have a secret place to be hidden too? Yes they did, it was called "the Valley of Queens". It was also known as Ta-Set-Neferu, meaning –"the place of the Children of the Pharaoh". It was located in Thebes, Egypt. There are between 75 and 80 tombs there. One tomb that was found there was Queen Nefertari. The other Queens were found in other secret places. They still haven't found Nefertiti's tomb yet, or at least they think they haven't. I know in this picture the "Valley of Queens" doesn't look so very royal or interesting as you think it would be but it's a "secret" place. Also, the wives of pharaohs were buried here too!

What in the world are Dynasties?

A dynasty is a succession of people belonging to the same families that had great power. In other words that means a certain time period some one ruled in. So how does this relate to Queen Pharaohs? Well every queen pharaoh ruled in a dynasty. There were 30 dynasties of Egypt. For example Queen Nefertari ruled in the 18th dynasty. The 18th dynasty was a dynasty a lot of pharaohs ruled in. So did Nefertiti , and Hatshepsut. Cleopatra was the last pharaoh so she ruled in the 30th dynasty Ptolemaic period. The Ptolemaic period means "Greek". Also Arisinoe II was in the ptolemaic period too! But only 30 dynasties doesn't mean there were only 30 pharaohs! Ohhhh No! People say that there were more than several hundred pharaohs. Scientist don't know for sure because they have found too many! The dynasties were sorted into groups. Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom.

Differences Between King and Queen Pharaohs

There were a lot of differences between all the Pharaohs of Egypt. Most Queen Pharaohs had a longer time to rule than the King pharaohs. It was because more Kings died and sometimes people were so selfish they would kill the Pharaoh so that they could rule. How awful is that? Also King pharaohs had more control over the people of Egypt than Queen pharaohs did. One Queen Pharaoh named Hatshepsut always wore a fake beard because she believed that queen pharaohs had the same power as a king did. Also, many pharaohs where related to each other and some were not. Something that is funny that we would think is totally weird is that the pharaohs would marry their brothers or sisters so they would keep the royal chain going.

Queen Pharaohs

Everyone knows there was a Pharaoh of Egypt! But only some people know that there were Queen Pharaohs!! The most common queen pharaoh almost everybody knows, is Cleopatra. Most people know who she is, is because she was the last Queen Pharaoh of Egypt. Actually, She was the last Pharaoh of all! (My mom dressed like her for Halloween once. . . It was a pretty cool costume I have to admit!) There were many many pharaohs of Egypt. But I'm going to tell you about some important Queen Pharaohs. There was Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Nefertari, Hatshepsut, and Arisinoe II. Most of these queens were important because they were married/descendants from very important pharaohs or, they had a HUGE impact on Egypt. Like Arisinoe II had many streets and temples dedicated to her. Also, they were famous for what kind of Dynasty they ruled in.
